Passion 101

I have started doing some fun things to keep my sundays alive by recently joining a photography group called the MWS ( Mumbai Weekend Shoot) where photographers get together, visit a particular place and click snaps. its loads of fun since ive started understanding my camera , to give me my desired results. Whats more is that i get totally inspired for Paani Puri and also the opportunity of meeting new like minded people. Makes me think that life is so short, and capturing memories is what keeps our future creativity alive.

I love this city, theres no other place id rather be ( except Goa that is :D)

Walking on the moon

This particular design is very dear to Rish and me. It was on June 25th 09 that our world stood still as we watched the tele in horror. I remember this day in black and white, as if it was a weird flashback that sucked us into the very core of sadness.

At 8 am, my mom rushed into the room with a stunned look on her face " Eureka! wake up! MJ is dead!" I was too dazed in sleep to fully understand the gravity of those 6 words. I remember rushing to the hall television and watch in silence as hours and hours of reports and agony of millions unfolded painstakingly on every channel. I called Rishab, who was clearly devastated, and told him, we need a tribute shirt.( both of us being big fans)

We met the very next day, armed with a small notebook and pencil, sketched out various ideas but none of them hit home run, then as we traveled home, switched on the TV and watch his greatest hits on VH1, he came up with a brilliant idea! He figured what it would be like for an astronaut in space to witness MJ's peaceful exit from his torturous world which did nothing but defame a perfectly passionate and innocent individual during the last years of his life. What it would be like to capture this moment without being a typical flamboyant in your face tribute tee. So i began sketching and this is what i came up with. A design which had an elusive sub design that could be spotted only under deeper inspection. I made the rough draft, mailed it to him and waited. He was kinda silent at first and when i pointed out the hidden image, we had a jaw dropping moment. It was one of the first times we connected on a creative level and we both knew this had to be it.

Long story short, I am very proud that unlike other companies that just kinda "dish out" designs, ours has a lot of history behind them, from the initial sketches, to the placements, to the stories, our very concept is based on something that either of us have experienced. This is just one of the stories i thought of sharing with you all today. And you as customers, friends and colleagues can be certain that what ever be the design, a lot of love and hard work has gone into bringing that particular shirt to you.

So go on, give this shirt a try, it looks good either way, no matter if its in black or white! :)

Where we are so far!

Okay so i haven't really blogged much in the last couple of months, but i need to tell you guys that a lot has been happening since i left off.

For starters, we got a new member on a team (Suyash), who's like an awesome person to hang out with since we both love Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd and Elvis! hehehehe, also we are in the process of setting up the so called "office" but honestly i hate that word, i would rather have it be called " Playhouse" since that's all we do, Draw and play ( yes, there is some serious stuff that happens at Paani puri but that's Rishab's department! lolz

In any case we should be moving in by September so i cant wait to let that happen. On the design front, im really happy with the response we got and there's nothing better than seeing a happy customer.

In other news,

I recently attended a school reunion and was surprised to know that most of the people i haven't seen in years knew about Paani Puri, which is like a huge high for us.

Also we have like so much more to do, there's brand new stationary coming in this week, so people who order also order innovative packaging too :D, plus we have a new season that will be coming out soon, by Gods grace we are moving forward in all the happiness a job can bring someone.

We are also looking out for artists or should i say " new puri's" to join our basket as we take over the world one puri at a time :D

By the way, the business cards kick-ass, will post them up shortly. Also we are really happy that MTV loves us, and given us some space on their cool mag "Noise", so check that out too!

Why I enjoy Paani Puri!

Artists need freedom, that is the way we are built. A year back, I was a lost artist, confused, ill confident and unemployed. I could not find a job that fit my profile. However I believe that there is no such thing as coincidence. I met Rishab when he got here, to India that is, and we both knew our careers at the time lacked a certain passion. Work should never be work, we both knew that.

I started designing t shirts for fun for some online t shirt sites, for the heck of it. He happened to see some of these and then "Eureka" :) he had an idea that rocked my world!

In the beginning i was very skeptical about the whole thing, "Paani Puri???? can u actually call a clothing brand that?? was my first ever question to him. We worked on it then, not knowing where this might lead, day in day out, not knowing why or how, it was a calling. We knew we had to do this, though we didn't know why.

Initially we were just testing the entire thing, but his focus and determination greatly influenced and motivated me. Needless to say we made a good team. Like they say, the rest is history!

If a year back, someone would have told me " Your art on a Paani Puri tee will be featured in Verve and Marie Claire magazine, or that it would have 1075 and counting fans on Facebook, i would have be in shock and total denial" This is however a reality, and I am so proud to see this Baby grow.

Why I enjoy Paani Puri? Cause i love it, i wake up to it every single day, i look forward to it, in seeing it grow it has helped me grow as an artist. Its given me freedom, its given me challenges, its given me relationships, its given me energy. I feel so much more confident! There was a time where this would all seem surreal.

I believe God always puts you through the toughest times so when you do reach a checkpoint and look back, you can truely appreciate where you have reached. I do not know where this road is taking us, but i know at the end of it all, it will definetly be an amazing journey. Artists need freedom, that is the way we are built, Paani Puri gives me that freedom, that is why it was built.
